July 29 - We start the trip home
We have made the big plunge of shifting gears from boat travelers to "land cruisers". This morning we had the boat pumped out, hauled, pressure washed (what a mess on the hull in the last 3 weeks!), and acid washed. See the black bottom in the picture right. After a short jaunt in the boat and a short jaunt in the car+trailer the two were reunited and delivered to the boat broker. As we left, a huge downpour/thunderstorm erupted and we drove away to get one last crabcake.
We
really enjoyed the Atlantic Marina but not the weather. Becka and I
took a 2-mile walk on the approach road every morning and evening.
Along the way we saw squirrels, deer, foxes, turtles, stray silky terriers,
charging coon hounds, flies, ticks, etc. The road was shaded with few
cars and was a pleasant walk once Becka had marked her territory. We
did our share of trash pick-up ( it is amazing how much trash people throw
out of their cars on these roads!)
Fred was in scrapple heaven, at least he thought he was. We found
several brands of scrapple in each supermarket and it was on the menu in the
restaurants. Unfortunately, he didn't like the available brands (he
tested them all) as much as his favorite Habberstadt brand. There is
no scrapple in the trunk on dry ice as we had hoped.
We
don't know our return route but we are presently at the top of the Blue
Ridge Parkway. We went to Harper's Ferry today (picture right) and I
would like to drive the entire parkway before going to see Little Rock and
Arkansas before driving west. With the weather cooler the next few
days it looks like a good plan.
We end this day with a picture of sunset over the
Francis Scott Key Bridge.
More later,
Joan (and Fred)
